Hi, I’m Liz (she/hers)

THERAPY, CONSULTATION

Liz Schneider-Bateman LICSW

I came to the field of mental health through a deep curiosity about people and the immense beauty and immense suffering that life entails. I have been a therapist since 2012. In addition to general therapy, I specialize in supporting people who are navigating significant life transitions (specifically the transitions to parenthood or college), people who have experienced trauma, people exploring their identity, and people wanting to develop more self-compassion in all life stages. People describe me as gentle, real, strategic, and having a joyful presence.

I have had the honor to support clients with a wide range of identities. I have significant experience working with LGBTQIA+ young adults and adults, including support of trans/nonbinary/gender expansive individuals and training in WPATH 8.0 standards for gender affirming care. I also have experience working with International students, 1st generation and 1.5 generation Americans, BIPOC, and 1st Generation college students. I have worked with many people with disabilities (primarily mental health related disabilities) seeking access and accommodation to support their college education.

As a white, cishet provider, I am attentive to the impact I have on others, as well as the experiences of marginalization many experience in the context of health care. I am actively and regularly engaged in my own on-going professional and personal work to understand and dismantle white supremacy and other biases and advocate around systemic change. I invite clients’ unique culture, identities, and experiences to help guide the therapeutic process.

I have significant experience in responding to experiences of trauma. This includes supporting communities and individuals directly following traumatic loss and providing individual and group support to survivors of sexual violence of all identities. As a trauma-informed therapist, I know that trust is the most important therapy tool.

I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindful Self-Compassion. I won’t leave you wondering how to use your therapy sessions. I will talk with you directly about what you want and need, will make suggestions about next steps/directions if needed, and will welcome open conversation if you feel unsure or stuck.
